England Basketball

GB’s spectacular defeat to Australia, which effectively prevented them from qualification to the knock out stage of the Olympic tournament has certainly marked an end of a certain era. Chris Finch along with his trusted lieutenant Nick Nurse have gone and they are joined in their exodus by older players.

More importantly, the clinic delivered by the Australians also triggered an end of the concept of building the strength of basketball in this country based on one aging and lacking perspectives senior team.

Situations like that also often result in an avalanche of negative comments and general finger pointing. The problem with such a reaction is the fact that this very rarely produces any positive impact. Future Stars spends time with England Basketball CEO Keith Mair trying to thrash out ideas which would bring a far more long term and sustainable growth of high profile basketball in the UK.
